“Ambitions as big as global achievements are the only way to obtain notable success in the field of sports,” said Gururaj Poojary, a Bronze medalist in weight lifting at the Commonwealth Games and Junior Warrant Officer of Chandigarh Airforce.
He was speaking as he inaugurated the university level weightlifting championship at SDM College Ujire. The championship is jointly organized by SDM College and Mangalore University.
“Opportunities come seeking dedicated ones. Sports are also a great launchpad for people who aim to get into government positions,” he added. Prof. Satheeshchandra, the Principal of SDM College Ujire was present at the occasion. The sportsman who first introduced weightlifting to SDM in 1981-82, Mr. Udaya Bhat and sports achiever Mr. Gururaj Poojary were felicitated at the inaugural.
